U15 Girls Cricket Tournament

  featured image

On Friday 16th June, Year 9 & 10 students made the journey over to Wolverhampton Grammar school for a cricket tournament. We played 3 games in our round, winning 2 and losing 1. We also played a friendly match which we won too! Despite all the wickets we took and runs we scored, unfortunatley, we did not progress through to the finals stage. It was extremely close though as it went down to the total number of runs scored by us and another school. The girls were amazing and there was some amazing talent shown throughout the day. We are very lucky to have such talented students and I hope the enthusiasm continues next year.

A big shout out to the following students: Mica, Holly, Ellisa, Phoebe, Liv, Tilly, Immy, Keira, Eve & Chloe.

Y8 PGL Trip

On 23rd June 14 JTHS staff took 145 Year 8 students to PGL Boreatton Park. Students had an excellent weekend, crammed full of activities ranging from trapeze, rifle shooting and canoeing. Students demonstrated school values consistently, particularly perseverance! We saw nervous students conquering their fears of heights and pushing themselves outside of their comfort zones to reach a real sense of achievement. We ended the second night with a silent disco, this really was enjoyed all round! The students really were a credit to u us! Well done!

The Sixth Form Management Games

  featured image

A team of Business and Economics students competed in The Sixth Form Management Games, this is a regional competition in which schools across the country compete.

The day is run by The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accounting, and professionals from the organisation run the day setting the students up with real world scenarios in which they had to write reports and deliver presentations all judged by these professionals.

The scenario the students were given this year was how to cut costs from a hospital without compromising patient care, this meant making reasoned and rational decisions and justifying their choices, they also had to talk to MP’s and trade union representatives all whilst meeting strict deadlines. The students were all excellent throughout the day, working well as a team with each other and all handling the challenging questions from the professionals.

The John Taylor High School team won the competition and were praised very highly by the professionals for all elements of the tasks that they had to produce throughout the day and told that they had beaten all the other teams in every challenge.

It is always fanatastic to have our past learners re connect with us. We were delighted to have support this time from Abi Watson who is currently completing her second year of Graphic Design at Loughborough University. Community Presence

We would like to remind students that, during term time, they are very visible in the local community and their actions reflect on the school when they are in uniform. We would ask that students show great respect to our neighbours and their property. We have had reports of students not paying attention when crossing the road at busy times and damage to curb-side flower arrangements.

Just before the start of term, Barton village will be celebrating the Family Festival which includes the Teddy Bear Rides. If any of our school community, parents or students, would like to volunteer across the weekend of 2nd and 3rd September, please contact [email protected]. They would be very pleased to hear from you.

With best wishes

TikTok

The school have been made aware there are a number of TikTok accounts that are being used by students from Year 7 through to Sixth Form in our school, to share content and messages. It is believed that these accounts are targeting and abusing others online.

Please can we ask parents/carers to check the use of their child/childrens phone and other devices, particularly around TikTok. TikTok has a minimum age of 13 so should not be used by anyone under this age.

Should you find any content of concern, please use the ‘REPORT HARMFUL CONTENT’ button on the school’s website, located on the homepage Home - John Taylor High School (jths.co.uk) This will help and support in getting it removed.
