Year 11 - Exams update
Pre-exam briefings 2022
The final timetable for the pre-exam briefings which start after May half term has been created and can be viewed on the link below:
Please note that regular lesson timings will be used. If a briefing takes place during period 1, students will be expected to attend school at the regular time in order to register with their form tutor first. If the briefing is during period 2 or 3 students should go straight the room indicated on the timetable where they will be registered by the teacher. Once students have finished an exam or a briefing, they are able to be collected and return home.
Lesson 1: 9.30am – 11.10am (register at 9am first)
Lesson 2: 11.30am – 1.10pm (go straight to the room to be registered)
Lesson 3: 2.00pm – 3.40pm (go straight to the room to be registered)
Students who would prefer to stay in school to revise when they have no exam or briefing will be able to do so. We will need to know the number of students who are intending to stay in school to revise. If your son or daughter would like to access this opportunity please indicate this via the Microsoft Form on this link before Wednesday 25th May. Students who are staying in school will need to sign in at a special desk in the lower link block so that we know they are here.
Special Consideration 2022
As we start this year’s external exams, we thought it would be useful to confirm what JCQ’s ‘Special Consideration’ procedures are. Special consideration is given to a candidate who has temporarily experienced illness, injury or some other event outside of their control at the time of an exam
There are two categories of special consideration:
- Candidate is present for the examination but disadvantaged.
- Candidate is absent from the exam for an acceptable reason.
In light of Covid, JCQ have adjusted their guidance somewhat this year as UKHSA advice is still that those children testing positive for Covid should stay at home and avoid contact with others for 3 days. If a student is staying at home, in line with UKHSA guidance, at the time of an exam, this is classed as an acceptable reason. In this situation, please ensure that you inform the school of the absence, including the reason why, i.e. Covid. Our Exams Manager will then contact you with Form 14 – JCQ/ME – Self-certification for candidates who have missed an examination which must be completed and signed by both the parent and candidate in order for the school to apply for special consideration on your behalf.
It is important to note that in order to be awarded a grade, each candidate must have completed the examinations/assessments for at least one whole component within the specification. A qualification award will not be made where none of the examinations/assessments within a specification have been completed.
JCQ have produced a ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ documents for the Special Consideration procedures in 2022 which gives more details. It can be viewed on this link.
