Our Year 12 BTEC Sports Students displayed an impressive example of student leadership and community engagement at the multi-skills sports festival, which saw approximately 100 primary school pupils taking part in an action-packed afternoon.
The preparation for this event required careful planning from the student leaders, with the help of the Sporting Young Ambassadors. The leaders were responsible for the operations on the day, including welcoming the guest pupils, leading warm-up exercises and managing various sports stations. The activities included relay races, obstacle courses, penalty shoot-outs, bowling and cricket skills; all quite challenging, however scaled to suit the age range of the pupils. The Year 12 students did a fantastic job at explaining activities clearly and keeping everyone's enthusiasm high throughout the afternoon.
Mrs Roberts, Teacher of PE, said 'the group of students have worked incredibly hard to ensure that the event ran smoothly for the primary school pupils. Not only did they make it a huge success, it was also a valuable learning experience for them and I am proud to have witnessed them show our schools core values of perseverance, integrity, kindness and respect. Their interactions with the primary pupils were positive and encouraging which helped create a supportive environment for all.'

To finish the event, the Year 12 students presented the primary pupils with a certificate, which they had designed themselves, for their participation and achievements.
Well done to everyone involved.

This week’s #WakeUpWednesday guide highlights the unseen risks this poses to children’s mental health, sense of safety, and social behaviours. With insights from a leading expert, it offers practical ways for parents and educators to respond with empathy and support – not punishment or panic.
Around 70% of teenagers say they’ve seen real-life violence on social media in the past year. Violent content online isn’t just something young people are occasionally stumbling across – in many cases, it’s becoming a routine part of their digital world. From fights and stabbings to toxic ideologies, disturbing videos are often just a click away on social media or group chats.

We would like to bring your attention to the 2025 Burton Bursary Award Scheme that the Festival Management Team are responsible for administering.
This scheme was created to enable Arts students to gain Bursaries for future Arts education, as we all know how expensive that can be.
Full details can be found on the link at the bottom of this message along with a link to the entry form. The awards are in relation to any area of the arts be it Fine arts, performance in Music, Drama, Dance or media. Eligible candidates must be aged up to 18 and should be studying at Grade 5 or GCSE level in their particular discipline but they do not have to have passed those particular qualifications to enter.
If you know someone who is eligible, we would strongly recommend that they enter as this is a great opportunity to obtain some financial support towards lessons or resources etc. There are a number of Bursaries are awarded so there are numerous chances of success.

Festival / Bursary Management Team
We are delighted to share the news with you that we have recently started a feasibility study to develop a floodlit 3G Artificial Grass Pitch on the school site.
Working with the Football Foundation and Staffordshire Football Association over the next 6 -9 months we will be going through a framework to develop the detailed design for the facility prior to submitting a formal planning application to East Staffordshire Borough Council and a funding application to the Football Foundation. If all goes to plan, the new pitch should be built summer 2026.
This development will not only provide a fantastic new facility for students at the school but will provide a training and match play venue for the local community to use in the evenings, at weekends and during school holidays. We will be undertaking consultation with local clubs, community groups and organisations and sharing this exciting news with them in due course.
We will continue to update you on the plans and share further information as the project develops. We will also be looking at various fund raising and sponsorship opportunities as we move forward over the next few months.
The pictures below provides an example of what the facility will look like once built.
If you have any questions, please contact us via [email protected]
Over the coming months as students begin to leave school, please can we kindly ask parents to consider donating any unwanted uniform to school. Please ask your child to leave them at reception. Thank you in advance for your generosity! #OneCommunity
Thank you to those who have already donated!
