There are still a number of Year 12 students who do not have a work experience placement and as part of the sixth form curriculum it has been calendared for the week 8-12th July 2019. Work experience is a unique role and can help young people develop employability skills and increases the value that employers place on this when they are assessing young people for employment.
If your son/daughter does not yet have a placement we encourage you to talk through this opportunity with them. Please use the next few days for research, or speak to family and friends as many of our students’ previous placements have been organised through someone they or their family know. The school and Entrust, our placement Health & Safety provider, require 8 weeks’ notice to process a work placement. If a placement is requested within 8 weeks of the placement taking place it may be declined.
Due to the nature to some of the students’ career paths, work experience may not be possible due to age or confidentiality reasons. This should not stop them looking for a placement and they should think outside the box. For example, if interested in working for a particular company, they may take on work experience in a different department that is not age restrictive, where they can pick up language, find out how the company works and make contacts within the company.
Work experience is not compulsory, however if they choose not to go out on placement they will be re-deployed across the school to mentor lower school students in various classes. There will be no timetabled lessons, however they must attend school for the entire week. If they have no authorised placement and do not attend school they will be marked as absent.
All students have the opportunity to meet with the Work Experience Co-ordinator, located in the Staff Office Tuesday – Friday, to browse previous placements and research possible routes, and we would encourage your son or daughter to pop into the Staff Office if help is required.
If they are yet to find a placement, please have a chat with your son or daughter and ask them to log in at www.workexperiencespace.co.uk
There are numerous placements on this database that are already authorised.
The lunch time revision sessions are being received well. Click on the link below for details.
After May half-term, students are only required to attend school for their exams. To support their revision of English Language, drop in sessions are available on Monday 3rd June and Thursday 6th June.
Please could you encourage your son/daughter to attend these sessions.
Kind regards, English Department
The canteen are unable to offer a loan service at this time of the year. Therefore, please ensure there are sufficient funds on Parentpay accounts for the remainder of this half term, so that students are able to purchase lunch and snacks, which is especially important during exam time. Thank you.
Pupils who have purchased a Prom ticket, may now collect their ticket from U20. Tickets are still available to purchase via ParentPay.
