Evie | 7T | |
Freya | 7R | |
Daisy | 7A | |
Adam | 7T | |
Milo | 9H | |
Maddox | 8T |
This week at Hot Chocolate with the Head, Mr Blanchenot was joined by a delightful group of Year 7s; Belle, Freya, Daisy, Adam, Isaac, William and Evie, the very talented Maddox in Year 8 and Milo in Year 9 for sporting achievements and Sonya for her volunteering achievements.
The group of year 7 pupils had been nominated by Miss Crutchley for representing the school on 21st October 2024 at St James’s Church for the ‘Service of Welcome’ and giving a reading in front of peers, parents and teachers.
The Service of Welcome is not only a tradition that occurs early in the academic year for our Year 7s, but it is a great way for our students to learn more about our wider community and the part they play as JTHS students.
Miss Crutchley, Assistant Head and Head of Lower School, led the Reflection part of the service and said ‘I am proud of how our Year 7 represented the school during the service. There was a high level of engagement and it was great to have our pupils, teachers, parents and key contacts from the local community all under one roof. Events like this are the epitome of our ‘One Community’ ethos.
Next to be recognised was Sonya who had volunteered at the recent Bhangra Dance event for local primary school pupils and had shown not only great leadership skills, but kindness too.
Next to share their story with the group was Maddox who had been nominated for demonstrating the value of perseverance in training and being selected by Swim England for the County Development Programme. Maddox told the group that despite his extensive schedule and early morning training sessions, he thoroughly enjoys swimming.
Finally, Milo was delighted to have been nominated for achieving gold in his age category in the World Karate Union World Championship in Rhodes, Greece. Milo explained to the group that he trains up to 4 times a week, and this was the second time he had been named World Champion.
We hope you all enjoyed your hot chocolate and goodies this morning, especially to Belle on your birthday! Keep up the good work and thank you for being great role models within our school.
On Thursday 5th December we will be holding Year 12 Parents’ Evening. This will take place online, with all appointments taking place via video call. We will be using an electronic system called ‘SchoolCloud’
Appointments will be set at 6 minutes and will finish when this time has elapsed. This will sit in a time slot of 7 minutes which is designed to allow teachers to quickly prepare for their next appointment. If you feel that you need a longer discussion with either the sixth form team or a subject teacher, this should be arranged by contacting school directly. The 6-minute slot will give enough time for a brief discussion around progress for all subjects. Video calls will automatically end at 6 minutes, this is part of the system and please do not think that the teacher has ended it abruptly if this happens, they have no control over this. Please ensure that you have logged in at least 10 minutes prior to your first appointment to take into account the time required to check sound and your camera. You will also need to ensure that you have a good broadband strength and Wi-Fi connection to avoid any technical issues.
Please use the e-mail address that you have provided to school, otherwise the system will not recognise you when you login. Instructions on how to use the system are included on the following links:
Parent guide to booking appointments
Parent guide to video appointments
The system will be open for parental bookings on Friday 15th November at 7pm and close on Tuesday 3rd December at 8pm.
Whilst we do not envisage you having any problems making appointments, if you do experience difficulties, please contact the sixth form team on the following email [email protected].
Yours sincerely
Mr Rostron
Head of Year
Donate a suggested £2 (minimum £1)
Every December, millions of people across the United Kingdom (and beyond!) put on a festive outfit at their workplace, school or with friends and make a donation to help give children the magical future they deserve.
Christmas Jumper Day is Save the Children's annual event which raises money for children in the UK and across the world.
Here's an exmaple from last year!
Parents/carers of year 8 pupils, please be reminded of the below trip information for your child. You should have recieved an email earlier this week!
Following on from the success of Alisdair Bowie’s presentation last academic year, Mrs Bostock invited him back to lead a workshop on data modelling and his career pathway to becoming a Principal Engineer. Alisdair works for Horiba Mira, a global provider of automotive engineering solutions and well-known for developing test circuits for Top Gear.
Alisdair covered topics such as sample data, analysis, conclusions, data sets, sources, challenges and limitations within the automotive industry. He highlighted how pulling this data helped test car simulation, steering, performance, control systems, and vehicle efficiency. It was fantastic to see the group of students thoroughly engaged throughout the session.
Once Alisdair had finished his presentation, he took the time to speak to every student individually and help them with their spreadsheet models which the students found really helpful. Alisdair was brilliant at asking the right questions to help the students make improvements and understand their models on a deeper level.
Mrs Bostock said, ‘it was great for Alisdair to join our Year 13 BTEC IT students. The topics he covered directly linked with the Data Modelling Unit the pupils are currently studying. Alisdair’s real-life scenarios have helped inspire and give the pupils some useful tips for when they are approaching their Data Modelling unit. The interactive nature of the session meant the pupils could ask lots of questions and create some great discussions which brought the learning to life. Thank you everyone for their input’.
