Weekly Information - Friday 14th July 2023

The following students celebrated their achievements with Mrs Cochrane this week, congratulations to them all!

It has been a while since I set an alarm for 3 in the morning to get to a competition, but the early morning routine came flooding back last Friday as I set off on the 4 hour drive to the All England showground at Hickstead. Meeting our rider Emily at 7.30 am (who had travelled down the day before), I was greeted by a welcome cup of coffee in the lorry park. An utter professional, Scott (Emily’s pony) stood quietly and had a nice munch of grass whilst Emily and her mum worked to get him groomed and tacked up. Judging by the coating of shavings and the odd stable stain he had approved of his overnight accommodation and had had a good rest.

At 8.15am we headed down to the International Arena warm up area to declare for the class. The class was got underway at 8.30am and Emily was 11^th to go in a huge class of over 40 riders. The ponies section was up first and Emily and I watched a couple of riders go. The course was beautifully kept and the International Arena was an imposing sight. There were no clear rounds as Emily went to warm up and have a few practice jumps. Despite being in the Elite 1.10m National Final neither Emily or Scott showed any nerves and they went through a well practiced routine to make sure they were on top form before entering the arena.

Emily rode a super round and guided Scott to a quick clear round which took them into the lead. What followed was a nail biting hour and a half while the other riders went in to do their rounds. At the end of the pony section Emily and Scott were still in the lead, and won the pony section! However, after a few clear rounds in the horse section, Emily and Scott dropped to a still brilliant 4^th in the overall class winning a coveted NSEA Championships bucket and waterbottle.

A super day with smiles all round. Emily and Scott definitely demonstrated personal excellence.

• Thursday 17^th August – Year 13 pupils can collect their provisional statement of results between 8:00 – 12:00 from the main hall.
• Results will also be published on Go4Schools and will be available from 8:00.

• Thursday 24^th August – Year 11 pupils can collect their provisional statement of results between 8:00 – 12:00 from the main hall.
• Results will also be published on Go4School and will be available from 8:00.

• Pupils can nominate someone else to collect their results on their behalf by completing the Statement of Results Third Party Collection Form (link below)

The post-results services available to Year 13 are:

• Priority review of marking

This is the same as Review of Marking below but the review is conducted as a priority by the awarding body. This service is only available for GCE A-level qualifications       

• Clerical re-check

This Service will check

• that all parts of the script have been marked
• the totalling of marks
• the recording of marks

• Review of marking

This is a post-results review of the original marking to ensure that the mark scheme has been applied correctly. A marking error can occur because of:

• an administrative error
• failure to apply the mark scheme where a task has only a ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ answer
• an unreasonable exercise of academic judgement

 Reviewers will not re-mark the script, they will only act to correct any errors identified in the original marking

• Access to script to support review of marking

Request a copy of marked examination script to support a Review of marking

• Access to script to support teaching and learning
