Year 9 PE enrichment trip to Burton Albion Football club

On Tuesday 20th June, 16 Year 9 pupils visited Burton Albion Football club for the PE enrichment trip.

A number of activities were organised by the club which ranged from visiting the business department to seeing the facilities on offer and also a question and answer session.

The two reports attached are from students who visited the club, Jensen and Manon along with numerous photos from the morning:

"A few of us were offered the opportunity to visit Burton Albion football club for the day on Tuesday. As we arrived there, we were greeted by Reece who was great in educating us about the club. We started off by having the opportunity to view all the executive boxes, followed by that we then went into the media room and talked about what occurs in this room and recent events that have taken place. Next, we went on to view the home changing room, which was amazing as we got to see all the facilities and we were lucky enough to hold the promotion trophies achieved by the club. In addition to this, we had an exquisite viewing of the pitch as the rain fell heavy. We then moved over to the community centre they have on the premises and here we completed a quiz about what we learned during the tour. After this, we gathered some questions we had about the community trust and what they had to offer. These were very clearly explained by members of the Burton Albion Community Trust, amazing us on the fascinating events that take place in this organisation. Finally, we left and went back to school to continue the day. So we would like to thank the people involved at BAFC and our PE teachers who organised and generated a great day for us.
Many thanks"

"On Tuesday 20th June, 16 Year 9 students took a trip to Burton Albion. It started with a brief talk given by Reece and Holly, followed by a tour around the stadium with Reece giving us a lot of facts. Burton Albion Football Club started in 1950 and because they got relegated in their second year of the championships, they didn’t have to change all the benches to proper seats (which could have made a lot of issues money wise), so it was seen as a good thing after all that they got knocked out. We went in all the specialised rooms, like the VIP boxes (one cupboard had a ladder which leads to where the cameras are for filming), the media room for interviews and signing players, and meeting rooms. We then went into the changing rooms; they were comfortable, spacious, and held two of their main cups - which were in bags and then boxes for each (very protected as they are very valuable) - and behind were showers and even a therapy bath! We went on the south stand of the pitch; it was raining on Tuesday so there were white sheets to protect the pitch. We went back to the Trust Room and had a quiz (if you didn’t know what football team starts with 5 consonants, it’s Crystal Palace!) For the final task we had four speakers, and each table asked five questions. There was a food and health specialist who works with older and sick people to help them be stronger and to be ready for treatment in the healthiest way possible. A social media specialist mentioned that it takes time to get views and to grow your platforms. Reece spoke about Match days and how to prepare and that it can be stressful to get everything ready. Lastly, a physiotherapist told us about how he came a long way to get where he is now - it was a very inspiring anecdote. Overall, it was a very productive morning learning lots of facts and that there are so many jobs you can apply for to do with the sports industry, other than playing sport." Manon Year 9

It is always fanatastic to have our past learners re connect with us. We were delighted to have support this time from Abi Watson who is currently completing her second year of Graphic Design at Loughborough University. Abi gave our learners a contemporary insight into post 18 creative choices. We look forward to seeing Abi's career continue to flourish.
