Yr11 football success

Yr11 Football success

Our Yr11 football team have once again finished their season in style with a comprehensive 3-1 victory against a very good Paulet team.

The last of three fixtures, played on a sticky pitch, against physical opposition and following numerous periods of heavy rain, was on paper, going to be a tricky task.

A dominant start to games is always beneficial, particularly given the circumstances in which we found the final being played. Having adopted a Liverpool-esque high intensity press for the opening period, a mistake was forced by Momodou and Jon which subsequently presented Luca with the opportunity to roll the ball into an empty net. 1-0 John Taylor.

Our opening period of dominance continued and shortly after after the early first goal, our second arrived. A further disciplined high press, again resulted in a turnover in possesion deep within the Paulet half. Excellent combination play between Zach and Zain resulted in the ball being rolled to Will who struck the ball clean from outside the box. 2-0 John Taylor.

The remainder of the half was focused on containment; not conceeding and when suitable, looking to hit Paulet on the counter-attack. A series of half chances were created for both teams however the opening half drew to a conclusion, with both teams appreciative of half-time given the big pitch.

During the opening period of the second half, we expected Paulet to challenge us greater than they had first half. From their perspective something had to change. Our back five throughout the season has performed consistently well and once again were tested early on. Alfie, Jayden, Tom and Max stood up and were counted as Paulet pushed hard to get on the scoreboard. Following a number of high quality saves by Alfie, Paulet eventually scrambled home their opening goal. 2-1 John Taylor with approximately 20 minutes to play.

Paulet pushed hard in search of an equaliser and we were tiring. A number of substitutions were made allowing Connor, Aryan and Luis to add some energy to our tiring side. This renewed energy once again allowed us to press high up the pitch and following a well-worked freekick routine, Jon was well positioned to drill the ball low to give us back a two goal cushion. 3-1 John Taylor.

For the final quarter of the game, we managed things incredibly well with no further chances presented to either side.

Our thanks to Stapenhill FC for hosting the final and to Parents for their unwaivering support throuhgout the season.

Charity Netball match

  featured image

At the start of the summer term, we kicked things off with a netball charity match between the Year 11 Netball team vs the Year 11 Rugby team. Spectators soon filled the sportshall excitement and the teams were feeling competitive! After explaining the rules, the netball managed to win the first centre pass. It was a close start, the rugby team having lots of posession but not being able to convert their goals. The netball team scored 2 goals and were finding their flow. At half time, the score line was 2-2 and both teams got together to discuss tactics. The second half started and the netball team scored 2 goals back to back. The rugby team could not convert despite playing some good netball! The netball team scored one more goal before the full time whistle resulting in a 5-3 victory. Both teams played with perserverance and were a credit to the year. We managed to raise £92.51 in total, all proceeds have been put forward towards the Brandon Sutton trust. Thank you to everyone who played, donated and watched. Big shout out to our umpire Liv who was fantastic!
