Finding games for children which are appropriate for their age, which work on the devices the children use and the children will actually enjoy playing can be a minefield, particularly when parents are being bombarded with the 'but everyone else is playing this game' guilt trip. Game Finder is a new (free) service available from Taming Gaming which walks parents through various aspects, such as how old is your child? What devices do they have? What types of games do they like to play? And then gives a list of recommendations of suitable games.

Cambridge University will be running a two-and-a-half-day residential programme for Year 11 and 12 students interested in applying to study Veterinary Medicine at their University. The course will take place on Monday 3rd, Tuesday 4th and Wednesday 5th April 2023. To avoid disappointment, early booking is essential. The programme will include visits to both the pre-clinical and clinical departments to give a taste of the course, insight into life at a Cambridge college, and a chance to meet staff and current students. Places will be limited to 130 on first-come-first-served basis, and it would be sensible to encourage only likely A/A*-grade candidates to attend. Please note that Chemistry A level (or equivalent) is mandatory, and we strongly recommend two other science subjects, normally Biology, Physics or Maths. (For information on entry requirements for different examination systems, please see www.study.cam.ac.uk/undergraduate/apply/requirements) To view a provisional programme for the event and for more information, please go to www.vet.cam.ac.uk/study/vet/vetcam The 2023 course fee will be £280 for the all-inclusive two-and-a-half-day course; this fee covers all costs whilst attendees are in Cambridge. Attendees will be staying in St Catharine’s College in single student rooms with shared bathrooms. It is important to emphasise that attending this course, or other open days at Cambridge, while useful for many pupils to make their decisions about university choices, does not confer any advantage in the application process. The course can be booked and paid for using a debit or credit card by following the link at: |
If you have any problems using the booking site, please contact us at [email protected]. As stated above, places are limited to 130 and are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. We will acknowledge all applications and confirm bookings by e-mail on receipt of payment. We will keep an additional 10 names on a waiting list, in case of any cancellations. If a booking is cancelled, a £80 cancellation fee will be charged, and the remaining amount refunded. If you cancel within seven days of the start of the course none of the fee will be refunded. In addition, limited accommodation is available for the Sunday night before the start of the course; if you want to book accommodation on that evening, please do so when booking your course place using the online booking system, and we will be in touch with you with further details. Please note that this would be provided on a first-come first-served basis and that attendees staying overnight on Sunday 2nd April 2023 will not be supervised. Following the extended transition period, our new uniform and PE kit will become compulsory for all students from September 2023.
Current Year 7 and 8 pupils are already following the new uniform policy and guidance and we look forward to the Years 9, 10 and 11 joining them at the start of the next academic year.
Please see the full Uniform Policy and Guidance below:
As we return to school and the inclement weather continues, we encourage our students to wear coats over their school uniform. Please can we remind parents/carers and students of the following from the Uniform Policy and Guidance:
- Students are welcome to wear a V neck knitted jumper as part of their school uniform as an extra layer for warmth. For current Year 7 and 8 students the knitted V neck jumper should be dark/charcoal grey, for Year 9, 10 and 11 the knitted V neck jumper can be black or dark/charcoal grey. Sweatshirts and Hoodys are not permitted.
- Students should wear a coat in poor weather over their uniform, a coat is not a substitute for the school blazer.
- Parents/carers of students who walk or board and alight buses in more rural areas may wish to consider the visibility of coats, particularly at this time of the year when daylight is reduced.
Following our return from the school break, there has been an apparent increase in false/acrylic/gel nails. As a reminder, nail extensions, acrylic and gel polish are not permitted in school and natural nails must be short. The school requests that parents/carers support us by ensuring nail treatments such as this are removed before returning to school following a break.
We continue to give uniform reminders for infringements during the school day with 5 in a half term resulting in an after-school detention. If there are any uniform infringements that cannot be rectified immediately, we will contact home.
We thank you in advance for your support.
