Last week we welcomed our friends from Gesamtschule Muecke to JTHS. Many of the group had been writing letters to our students throughout the course of the last academic year.
Over the course of two days, the group of German students presented their town and school in a number of MFL classes and engaged our students in cultural games, even showcasing the latest German pop music.
J5 was awash with visitors at lunchtimes, with students from both schools keen to share experiences and make friends. The Haribo and Kinder chocolate brought by the visitors certainly helped to break down any barriers!
Mrs Brooks would like to thank the JTHS students (particularly form 8O) for displaying the school values of kindness, respect, integrity and perseverance in abundance during the visit and for showing such an enthusiastic interest in our visitors
On the afternoon of Tuesday 18th October, 120 year 2 pupils came to John Taylor school hall to experience the Bhangra music and Dancing by Vijay Sachdansaar from Birmingham.
This was our first sporting ambassador event and the first time we were leading and helping pupils from our feeder schools. There were four Schools who attended, Needwood, All Saints Rangemore, Walton and Shobnall Primary Schools.
It was so much fun to see the smiles on the faces of the Year 2 pupils as they danced together. We followed a series of Indian dance moves and when it was performed together it looked amazing. One of the best bits we as Young Ambassadors enjoyed was also dancing with our friends.
We cannot wait to do more types of leadership in the future and luckily we dont have to wait too long as we are helping out the PE Department on Open Evening in a few days time.
Martha, Ryan, Izzy, Lily, Charlotte, Lois, Will and Beth. Sporting Young Ambassadors.
The following students will celebrate their achievements with Mrs Cochrane this week, well done!!

Year 7 Bonding Day
The year 7 students had a fantastic time at Bonding Day on Monday, participating in lots of activities at Beaudesert Activity Centre, Cannock.
The activities ranged from Archery, Axe throwing, Jacobs Ladder, the Cave Simulator, completing the challenge course and much more.
The students were provided with the opportunity to work alongside their peers enhancing their Team Building skills and supporting each other to complete the activites.
A fun day was had by all.
From Monday 31st October, we are pleased to inform you that there will be the opportunity for students to purchase breakfast from the ‘Grab and go’ door of the canteen for food to be eaten under the covered area.
The canteen will serve breakfast between 8:00am and 8:45am.
We have been asked by the School Immunisations Teams to advise you of the following:
ESPO are a non-profit making organisation, who we use to supply a lot of equipment to school.
ESPO have set up ‘My School Fund’, where parents can register and receive 2% in reward vouchers for what you spend on Sainsbury’s and Argos purchases. The school then receives 1% back in rewards.
Please see the link below explaining the scheme:
We would like to remind parents of the following, particularly the unattended crossing:
Staffordshire County Council School Crossing Service are currently recruiting for crossing patrols for the Barton and Yoxall areas. Please see the vacancy advert below.
They have also advised us of the following and asked us to make parents aware:
Please be advised that after the retirement of Mr Cook, the crossing point on Dunstall Road/Main Street is currently being covered by a relief school crossing patrol, we usually only cover for a couple of weeks with a relief then the crossing point is left unattended, we are trying to cover this up to the October half term school break, after this we will not be able to cover this crossing point. In the meantime, should another crossing point need a relief, we will need to take this patrol off Dunstall Road, to be utilised elsewhere and this can be at a moment’s notice.
Please can you inform all parents, guardians, and children of this and please ask them to cross with care and caution if there is not a patrol on duty. The Parent Perspective Podcast episode 5 is now LIVE. Click on this link to listen The Parent Perspective Podcast - Amazing Apprenticeships
This week we're talking about the importance of supporting your child's emotional wellbeing and mental health as they navigate
the world of careers and their next steps.
We explore the topic, touching on...
- The importance of curiosity to help children to explore their options.
- Dealing with disappointment - how to cope when things don’t go as planned.
- Resilience as a tool for life.
- Utilising friends and family as a support network to talk through personal challenges and find shared experiences.
Please be advised that Year 10 Parents Evening will take place remotely on Tuesday 29th November 2022 via Schoolcloud. Booking instructions will be sent out after half-term
On Wednesday 9th November we will be holding Year 12 Parents’ Evening. This will be a virtual event with all appointments taking place via video call. We will be using an electronic system called ‘SchoolCloud’.
Appointments will be set at 7 minutes and will finish when this time has elapsed. This will sit in a time slot of 8 minutes which is designed to allow teachers to quickly prepare for their next appointment. If you feel that you need a longer discussion with either the sixth form team or a subject teacher, this should be arranged by contacting school directly. The 7-minute slot will give enough time for a brief discussion around progress for all subjects. Video calls will automatically end at 8 minutes, this is part of the system and please do not think that the teacher has ended it abruptly if this happens, they have no control over this. Please ensure that you have logged in at least 10 minutes prior to your first appointment to take into account the time required to check sound and your camera. You will also need to ensure that you have a good WiFi connection to avoid any technical issues.
Please use the e-mail address that you have provided to school, otherwise the system will not recognise you when you login. Instructions on how to use the system are included on the following links:
Parent guide to booking appointments
Parent guide to video appointments
The system will be open for parental bookings on Friday 21st October at 6pm until Tuesday 8th November at 4pm.
Whilst we do not envisage you having any problems making appointments, if you do experience difficulties please contact the sixth form team on the following email. If after reading the guide to video calls you believe this may be problematic, you may also use this email: [email protected]
Yours faithfully
Mrs Spencer
