A really useful article from Alan Mackenzie, E-Safety Adviser, has been published about changes to YouTube that can support parents with monitoring and restricting use to promote online safety at home.

A reminder to students that LGBT Pride Month badges are available to purchase for £1 from Lower School, Upper School and Sixth Form.
All money raised will support the LRC in enhancing their LGBT resources that are available for students.
On Thursday 9th June, 14 sporting Young Ambassadors made their way to Thomas Russell Infants School to help out with their sports day. The Young Ambassadors helped run the various events for Reception and Year 1 and Year 2 to take part in their first sports day on the school field for a long time.
With the help of the staff, the Ambassadors recorded points, helped to explain what each activity entailed and above all encouraged the young pupils. It did start to rain but the children still had fun and so did the Sporting Ambassadors especially as this was an event they had not done for quite a while. All in all it was a positive experience for everyone involved.
Here is a comment from a parent who was at the event.
"I just wanted to let you know that the Sports Ambassadors at the infant’s day sports day were really good. They were really encouraging with the little kids and smiling throughout. "
Well done to all the sporting Ambassadors for going and helping on the day, and hopefully they will look forward to leading many more sporting events, especially in the next Academic year.

On Thursday 9th June, pupils from 4 local Primary Schools, Shobnall, Needwood, Thomas Russell and Walton Primary School attended a Dance festival organised by Miss Senior's Dance Club in the sports hall.
It was a really fun experience and all the dance leaders enjoyed choreographing a routine for the pupils to learn. A couple of dancers took groups of 5 or 6 younger pupils and worked their way through the routine, creating very slick movements from all who participated. The Primary School pupils put a lot of effort in and were great dancers to the music used - "Shake it out".
Towards the end of the session, the groups were split into two and they were able to watch each other perform; a fantastic performance was seen by all.
The Dance club want to continue next year and also to do more dance for the local Primary schools.
Very well done to all who participated and performed in the sports hall.

On April 9th, 2022, Charlotte G and I (Fiona C) traveled as part of a group of 15 volunteers from Burton Albion Community Trust on a trip of a lifetime as part of Brewers in Ghana 2022. This was the Trust’s first trip to the Volta Region of Ghana since 2019 due to the Covid19 Pandemic. We worked with the Young Shall Grow, an organisation that looks after young people from the region who have been abandoned or orphaned and providing them with a safe space to live, eat and gain an education and also spent 5 days at Tegbi School (who are partnered with Burton Community Trust and African Adventures) where we renovated two classrooms as well as built a canteen. during our 10 days in Woe, we also visited a local community where we provided Toothbrushes, toothpaste, sanitary products and clothing in order to help a deprived community.
The trip was one of the most valuable and incredible experiences of my life, it was so insightful and impactful. I saw some things that I will never forget, not in a positive way, but equally, some things that were truly wonderful to experience. My first time in Africa was absolutely unforgettable. Therefore, I am ecstatic to announce that I will be returning to the community of Woe, in Ghana with Burton Albion Community Trust in April of 2023! However, in order to return and continue working in Tegbi EP School and help within the community I have a target of £2,400 to fundraise in order to cover travel costs and resources for the trip. Any money raised over the costs of travel will be used directly for Tegbi EP School, The Youth Shall Grow International and the community of Woe as we plan to provide every school child with a cooked meal every day whilst we are in the country, as well as provide as much support as we can to the local area.
As this is such a large fundraising goal, I am looking for as much help as possible. To raise this amount, I am planning various fundraising events for all ages which I would love to share, as well as looking for any potential sponsors! If anybody would like more information regarding the trip, please feel free to contact me via email: [email protected].

A clinic session is being held at Burton Community Fire Station, Moor Street, DE14 3SU on Sunday 19th June 2022, this is a walk in session (no appointment needed) for 5-11 year olds and 12-15 year olds to receive their Covid vaccination. Clinic is running from 10 am until 3pm.
You will be asked to fill in a consent form on arrival - if you have your child’s NHS number please can you bring this with you as it helps our process (but don’t worry if you can’t find it!)
The vaccine dose is different for the 2 age groups so to ensure your child receives the vaccine for their age, we will be asking a number of times confirmation of age and also using visual aids to identify the different age groups.
If your child has tested positive for Covid in the last 12 weeks please be advised that your child will not be able to have the Covid vaccine until after this time. The 12 week date is the 27th March 2022. (Clinically vulnerable children need to wait 28 days following a positive Covid test which is 22nd May 2022)
If your child is attending for their second vaccine, there needs to be a 12 week spacing between 1st and 2nd vaccine. The 12 week date is the 11th September 2022. (Clinically vulnerable children can be vaccinated at 8 weeks – 21st August 2022)
If your child has been contacted by the NHS for a 3rd primary vaccine or a spring booster we can facilitate this but will be required to see the letter or text message.
Please can you ensure that only 1 parent/person with Parental Responsibility accompanies your child and where possible please do not bring any other children with you (unless they are to be vaccinated too) – this is due to the limitations of space in the clinic.
Once your child has received their vaccine they will need to wait 15 minutes at the clinic.
If you have any questions these can be answered on the day as there will be qualified staff at the clinics .
