Since September 2018 we have been reviewing the current Positive Behaviour Management Policy and our procedures at JTHS. This process will continue throughout the course of this academic year and will lead to new procedures from September 2019. During the interim period we have decided to make a number of changes to reflect the staff and student voice. Please read the attached letter for details of the revised behaviour procedure and the revised reward and recognition procedure.

Students have attended an assembly on Student Finance and have been told that the application window to apply for a student loan is now open. It is important to apply for student finance now so that the loan can be processed before they start their course. Students don’t need to have confirmed which university is their firm choice they can just enter their preferred choice and change it at a later date.
Please ensure that you sit down with you son/daughter and register online at https://www.gov.uk/apply-online-for-student-finance and complete the application form.
Students who have any learning need e.g. Dyslexia etc have been advised to apply for the Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA). Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSAs) are grants to help pay the essential extra costs students might have as a direct result of their disability, including a long-term health condition, mental-health condition or specific learning difficulty, such as dyslexia.
Students can get the allowances on top of their other student finance. DSAs don’t depend on your household income – what you can get depends on your needs. You don’t have to pay these back. Further information can be found by visiting http://media.slc.co.uk/sfe/quickStartFinanceGuide/index.html
The link below is an information leaflet about student finance to support you with this process.

Formal assessments will take place during the first week following the half term break. These will be conducted during normal lesson time and will be ‘closed book’ assessments. The purpose of the assessments is to focus students as they return and to enable staff to revise any projected grades accurately.
Date for your diary: Year 12 Apprenticeship and Higher Education Evening for Parents and Students, Wednesday 13th March 2019 6.30pm to 8.30pm.
A range of workshops will be available to support the application process including, Student Finance, Apprenticeships, Choosing and applying to a University course, Using Unifrog, Oxbridge Applications and Extended Project Qualification.
Further details to follow.
Please see the letter (link below) about Geograhy revision sessions that begin on Tuesday lunchtimes, after half term. Please encourage your son/daughter to attend the sessions and regularly check the revision signs around the Geography dept.
Before half term I delivered an Assembly to all of the Year 11 students to give them some tips on how to manage their feelings on anxiety in their forthcoming exams, this included techniques such as “brain flooding” and “square breathing”. I have also given each of them a copy of some other Relaxation Techniques. Please click on the link below.
Mrs Turrell, Leader of Inclusive Education (including SENDCo)
Thank you to those parents who have completed the Post 16 Consultation Evening survey last week. If you haven’t had chance to complete this yet, please could you spare two minutes this week. Your feedback is valued and will help us to improve the information and advice that we provide in the future. Your support is very much appreciated.
All Year 11 will be sitting an English Literature mock exam on Monday February 25th. The mock exam will take place in the classroom during your son / daughter's timetabled English lesson. An alternative room has been organised for any student that has specific Access Arrangements.
Students have started their revision in lessons but should invest time over the holiday so staff can give them meaningful targets. Please encourage your son/daughter to use their revision notes in their exercise book.
English Language and English Literature set texts revision guides GCSE
The books below can all be purchased from Amazon and other leading book stores.
Copy and paste the ISBN numbers into the search box on Amazon and you will be taken to the texts.
You will discover many other revision guides for the set texts from different publishing companies. These should be recommended to you when the books below appear on screen. Most of these texts can be opened up on screen. If your son/daughter prefers the layout of a different guide, as long as it’s written to support the English Language and Literature AQA (9-1) examinations, it will be suitable.
With so many different study guides available for English Language and English Literature, we do not take orders through Parent Pay.
