We are very proud to announce that, thanks to the generosity of some of our staff and students, who made badges to raise money for the Ukranian refugees, these were sold in school and raised a fantastic £525.80!!
The money has been donated to the Disasters Emergency Committee.
On Friday 18th March, a total of eight Year 7 and Year 8 students from each of our Partner MAT Secondary Schools took part in our first ever KS3 Science MAT competition, held at John Taylor High School. This competition had a Biology round, Chemistry round, Physics round and a Tie-Breaker round, read out by Mr Donoghue. Each round was packed with a practical, multiple-choice questions, puzzle and "name the scientist / equipment" task, all to be completed in twenty minutes before being handed over, marked and judged by sixth form students and science teachers accompanying their students.
Each school was advised on how to select their team and at John Taylor High School, we selected based on how well students did in a General Science quiz. This quiz was part of a Valentine's Day themed Science lesson, held a few weeks earlier, in which students also made their very own bath bombs! Very well done to Emelia C, Jake D, Gracie F, Daniel B, Eva G, Anah H, William N and Junayd A for qualifying for the JTHS Science team!
The afternoon was a huge success and all students were an absolute credit to themselves, staff and school. There were ten points only between all four schools in the end, despite the diversity and range of tasks given to the students! Very well done to Paulet High School and Sixth Form College for taking the lead and the winning trophy!
A great deal of work went into making the event the success that it was from many people and so I would personally like to thank Mr Mitchell, our Science Technicians, Sixth Form student helpers, Cover staff, Site maintenence staff, Mrs Cochrane, Mr Donoghue and of course our KS3 students and teachers.
Very well done!

Students are not permitted to wear airpods in lessons or around school site at any time, this includes during bus queues. Between now and Easter staff will remind students to remove them. After Easter they will be confiscated and handed in to the relevant school office. Students will then collect their airpods at the end of the day.
Sixth Form students are permitted to wear airpods in the Sixth Form centre and LRC but not around school site.
It is important that students are able to hear and are attentive to instructions from staff, bells and fire alarms.
Years 7, 8 and 9 have been getting creative in Geography. They have been demonstrating personal excellence and STRIPE skills of innovate and create. In Year 7 students have created sustainable settlements as part of learning of 'what is my place in the World?'. In Year 8 students have been learning about the structure of the earth and plate margins and created some amazing (and very tasty!) cakes. In Year 9 students studied Middle East and were asked to carry out independant reserach and create tourism leaflets. Thank you to all the students who participated and we hope to see more examples of academic success.
You have this week been sent information regarding Year 8 Parents Evening. This will be held on Thursday May 5th from 16.30-19.30. The booking system will open on Wednesday April 27th at 6pm and close on Wednesday 4th May at 6pm. All booking instructions were sent out by email this week and a reminder with instructions will be on next week's newsletter.
Our first project for year 8 was learning about the different purposes for drawing. We followed the theme of the international project of the BIG Draw, 'Make the change'.This allowed us not only to learn the different purposes for drawing but how we could learn about climate change within our art and design lessons.
We have really loved taking part in this term's extended challenge. The creative art project involved designing and learning how to recycle and re-use unwanted items and rubbish, e.g. plastic bottles, tin cans and plastic bags. We had to use our imaginations and get really creative.
For the final project we were asked to find an artist we particularly liked that linked to the project and then create a page based on our research. Following this we started ‘mind-mapping’ and collecting materials for recycling.
For our end project we sketched out our final design and picked out our favourite and most creative pieces.
Thankyou Art department for an enjoyable and fun unit.
Phoebe, Emily & Charlotte
What Are Anonymous and Honesty Apps?
At their core, these are apps which allow users to interact with each other without revealing who the users are. They are used for a variety of reasons, such as being able to ask questions that may be embarrassing, but equally they can be used to cause harm.
Internet Matters have put together a really useful page which answers many questions around anonymous and honesty apps. You can find the page HERE.
We are pleased to invite you to attend our 'Get into Law' conference virtually via zoom on the 9th of April.
