Year 13: Student Finance Applications Are Now Open. Apply Now.
On Friday 18th March, a total of eight Year 7 and Year 8 students from each of our Partner MAT Secondary Schools took part in our first ever KS3 Science MAT competition, held at John Taylor High School. This competition had a Biology round, Chemistry round, Physics round and a Tie-Breaker round, read out by Mr Donoghue. Each round was packed with a practical, multiple-choice questions, puzzle and "name the scientist / equipment" task, all to be completed in twenty minutes before being handed over, marked and judged by sixth form students and science teachers accompanying their students.
Each school was advised on how to select their team and at John Taylor High School, we selected based on how well students did in a General Science quiz. This quiz was part of a Valentine's Day themed Science lesson, held a few weeks earlier, in which students also made their very own bath bombs! Very well done to Emelia C, Jake D, Gracie F, Daniel B, Eva G, Anah H, William N and Junayd A for qualifying for the JTHS Science team!
The afternoon was a huge success and all students were an absolute credit to themselves, staff and school. There were ten points only between all four schools in the end, despite the diversity and range of tasks given to the students! Very well done to Paulet High School and Sixth Form College for taking the lead and the winning trophy!
A great deal of work went into making the event the success that it was from many people and so I would personally like to thank Mr Mitchell, our Science Technicians, Sixth Form student helpers, Cover staff, Site maintenence staff, Mrs Cochrane, Mr Donoghue and of course our KS3 students and teachers.
Very well done!

Girls County Under 15 Cricket competition, Fenton Manor Sports Complex Stoke on Trent.
On Friday 18th March, ten Year 9 and 10 girls arrived at school at 8.00am ready and willing to travel to their cricket competition in Stoke on Trent. The team comprised of Caitlyn M Captain, Mica C, Chloe G, Tilly M, Amelia S, Faith C, Liv R, Eve C, Amelie S, Laiba K.
When we arrived at Fenton Manor Sports centre, we found out that there were two pools of 5 and 4 schools. We were in the pool of 4 so had to play 3 matches during the day. We were due to play St John Fisher, Denstone and Newcastle Under Lyme schools. The first game, John Taylor won 76-66. A very close game v Denstone was lost 48-60. Going into the final game against Newcastle Under Lyme it all depended on the last over. The final score was a draw 78-78.
Well done to all who took part and who thoroughly enjoyed their first sporting trip representing school for quite a few years.
