The following PPT and video has been used as part of assemblies this week to discuss what students will learn about through our careers programme which is delivered during registration period and the fortnightly tutorial programme.
Talking about the future can put pressure on students and this can cause them to feel anxious. This years' theme for the National Careers Week assembly is about Hope.
The video below provides students with advice about how to cope with these feelings and to help them to understand that it is natural to be worried about the future and the unknown. Please discuss this with your son/daughter.
Are you interested in a career in engineering? Would you like to hear more about what it’s like studying engineering at university?
On Wednesday 16th March from 5:00pm - 6:00pm we have a Careers in Engineering event with specialist engineering university NMITE and FTSE-250 engineering company Spectris for what’s set to be an immersive and insightful talk on the various routes into a career in the industry.
NMITE are a newly developed specialist engineering university with ties to some of the world’s leading engineering companies.
Headquartered in Egham, Surrey, employing approximately 9,000 people located in more than 30 countries, Spectris harnesses the power of precision measurement to equip their customers to make the world cleaner, healthier and more productive. They provide global customers with specialist insight through their high-tech instruments and test equipment, augmented by the power of software.
Throughout the course of the evening we will be discussing the various fields of engineering as well as the different pathways into the industry comparing the more traditional university routes with the modern degree apprenticeship opportunities.
If you’re interested in hearing more from some of the UK’s top engineering academics and working professionals this event is for you.

Tik Tok Parent Guide
It is important that parents are kept updated about TikTok, as many may not be aware of the risks and issues. OpenView Education have put together a really useful TikTok guide for parents. You can find the guide HERE.
Staffordshire Police, along with support services and referral agencies, are encouraging people to look for the signs of County Lines.
The term County Lines describes the activity of gangs and organised criminal networks (also known as OCGs) in exploiting young and vulnerable people into exporting illegal drugs into other areas of the country, often smaller areas, using dedicated mobile phone lines known as ‘deal lines.’
Dealers will take orders from drug users through mobile phones and target and manipulate young and vulnerable people to move and store drugs and money. Often, they do this through blackmail and intimidation and violence.
Young and vulnerable people can be groomed online or face-to-face by a stranger or someone they know. They can receive money, mobiles, credit, expensive clothing, jewellery, or other items/gifts in exchange for a specified task.
Staffordshire Police is committed to cracking down on this type of crime, but they need your help to stop this happening in your area. Information from witnesses and local communities is vital to building evidence, making arrests and prosecuting members of organised crime gangs.
If you know something, you can call the police on 101 or dial 999 in an emergency. You can also call Crimestoppers anonymously 24 hours a day by dialling 0800 555 111.
Alternatively, you can make a report online via the Staffordshire Police website or via their Facebook or Twitter channels.
Officers also want to identify young people who are at risk of criminality, so they can be given help. If you are worried that someone you know is involved in County Lines activity there is more information on spotting the signs and how you can report here: https://www.staffordshire.police.uk/countylines
Please be reminded that booking for Year 9 Parents Evening, to be held on Wednesday 16th March, has already opened and will close next Tuesday 15th March at 6pm. Please could we ask that only one parent books appointments. As previously highlighted in the email to parents sent with booking instructions, it may not be possible to book to see all of your child's teachers. You can add yourself to the waiting list within the system for a particular teacher in case an appointment becomes available, or alternatively you may email [email protected] after Parents Evening if you wish to be contacted by a particular member of staff.
Thanks to those parents who contributed to our request for parent voice feedback following the Year 10 parent's evening. The feedback and our responses to the general comments have been uploaded here and on the school website for you to view.
All students in Year 11 & 12 will have the opportunity to take part in the 'National Citizen Service' programme this summer.
The video below gives you a brief introduction to this programme. At some point next half term students will have an assembly to give more details of this programme.
What is NCS?
Designed specially for 16 and 17 year olds, the NCS experience will give you a clearer idea of what you want from your future turning all those ‘No You Cant’s’ into No We Can.
We exist to engage, unite and empower young people, building your confidence so you can go out there and achieve your dreams, no matter where you’re from or what your background is.
You’ll spend a few weeks in the summer or autumn mixing with a new crowd, and taking on fresh challenges together. Before you know it, you’ll be rooting for each other, as you all tackle your own little hurdles.
Along the way, you’ll also get a taste for independence and pick up skills that’ll help you smash your future goals. And if that’s not enough for you, you’ll also be given a platform to get your voice heard and pursue a passion project to create a positive, lasting impact in your local community.
How can I get involved?
NCS is designed for 16 and 17 year olds. However, you can go on programme as a 15-year-old, as long as you turn 16 on or by 31 August of the year you apply for. If you have already turned 18 by this date, you unfortunately won’t be eligible.
Find out more and sign up today at the NCS site.
