Y7 - Maths and English progress tests

Please be informed that students in year 7 will be completing Progress Tests in Maths and English from the week beginning 21st June. These are similar to the assessments that were completed in the Autumn term but they will be completed in their regular lessons with their subject teachers.

These assessments use nationally standardised tests to support schools in identifying individual student needs and potential gaps in their knowledge. The maths tests are designed to assess key aspects of maths such as shape, number and mathematical concepts (like money place value and time). The English tests assess key aspects of English such as spelling, grammar, punctuation and reading comprehension. As such students cannot ‘revise’ for these tests and should not worry about them; please reinforce this with your children.

The timetable for these assessments can be seen below:

Y8 - The National Enterprise Challenge 17th June

  featured image

Air.png

As part of the careers curriculum, Year 8 students will participate in the National Enterprise Challenge in partnership with Air Products on Thursday 17th June. Students will be working in small groups to design an innovative new product which offers an alternative use for Air Products cylinders and tanks which can no longer be used for gas storage. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to develop employability skills, including:

  • COMMUNICATION The ability to effectively put across a message either through verbal or written means.
  • TEAMWORK The ability to interact and work effectively with others as part of a team or group.
  • INITIATIVE The ability to make your own decisions & formulate your own ideas without guidance or support.
  • PROBLEM-SOLVING Being able to anticipate problems and to suggest innovative ideas.
  • ORGANISATION The ability to manage time and to prioritise tasks effectively.
  • LEADERSHIP The ability to inspire & manage a team and to make key decisions.
  • CREATIVITY Demonstrating the ability to think ‘outside the box’ to generate innovative or unusual ideas.
  • NUMERACY The ability to use numbers or mathematical skills confidently.
  • RELIABILITY Demonstrating commitment to a job or project by doing what is asked of you.
  • DIGITAL Showing an awareness & aptitude for digital innovation; including digital design and marketing.

We hope that our Year 8 students make the most of this opportunity and have a fantastic time.

Y9 - Internal Maths assessments

Year 9 will be having two mathematics assessments during June 2021. The first test will be based on our own internal assessment and will relate to work covered during the first two terms of Y9, along with anything from previous years too. Students have been emailed a list of all topics covered so far, along with potential revision links. This test will take place in their usual lessons on Tuesday 22nd of June.

GL Assessments - Progress Tests. Please refer to the previous article regarding these assessments.

Please remind students to bring all Maths equipment with them and if they have any concerns, please ask them to speak with their Maths teacher or myself.

Best Wishes

Y10 - End of Year Maths Exam

Year 10 will be having their end of year mathematics assessment on Tuesday 22nd June 2021 during period two. The test will be based on topics they have covered so far this year and in previous years, however there will be nothing from last half term. A list of topics has been emailed to them to help aid revision, along with links to Mymaths.co.uk and Century.tech should they wish to use them.

It is expected that they bring a pen, pencil, ruler and geometry equipment (a calculator may be needed for the remainder of the lesson but it is not necessary for the test).

Best Wishes
